Suffering comes for different reasons, but is never a punishment from God. God will never hurts us, He is the one that heals us. The Bible says, “And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His cloak, because she thought, ‘If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed.’ Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from Him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, ‘Who touched My clothes?’ ‘You see the people crowding against You,’ his disciples answered, ‘and yet You can ask, Who touched me?’ ” Mark 5:25-31. In Biblical times, a woman during menstruation was considered impure, and anyone who touched her during that time was also considered impure for a few days. According to the law of Moses, this woman was impure for twelve years. She had spent all her money on treatments. Getting worse as time passed.
“Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at His feet and, trembling with fear, told Him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.” Mark 5:33-34. We don’t know the reason for this person's illness, the passage only speaks of the Lord Jesus love and compassion for her when He told her your faith has healed you. After twelve years, his life was going to be normal again. All it took from her was to believe that God's Son could heal her. This miracle seems to me one of the most moving miracles that our Lord Jesus Christ did. It is important to understand that the person in need is the one who needs to seek for help, and will receive it according to his faith or trust in God, not through the faith of relatives or friends, or because someone prayed. It is not done by magic, it is a miracle from God. We can and should intercede, but the person in need must have trust in God for the miracle to take place. Our trust in God is totally personal. We can be guided, but it is one self who has to trust on the power of God.
We know that God uses the suffering that comes to our lives, because in those moments is when we seek the help of someone who knows more than we do, and God wants us to seek for Him, to remind us that He is the only one who can help us, because suffering makes us reflect and understand, what brought us the pain, because under these circumstances, sometimes, we have the disposition to make changes. Do you remember seasons when you were closer to God? It was always during difficult times, because we look for Him only when we are left without alternatives, after we had depleted our resources, as the woman of the narration. We know by now that the body is neutral, that of itself does not have the capability of getting sick, or healing, and understand specially that the problem always starts in the mind. The sickness of the mind occurs because we harbor feelings of guilt, or resentments. As we are revise them and revive them, it grows and hurt us even more until eventually they manifest in the body in the form of some illness.
We can go to the doctor who will try to cure the physical symptoms, but unless we solve the problem of our minds, the healing of the body will be only temporary. Guilt and resentment are negative emotions that only the Holy Spirit can heal. These are twisted energies that we don’t have the ability to straighten out, only God can do it, after we are conscious of the issue and bring the matter to the Holy Spirit. And it is then that the miracle of the healing of the mind is received, and consequently the physical health follows. Your life and your happiness are very important to God. A joyful life is a life that you live without fear, under His love and protection. Your sojourn is ephemeral, you are having a fearful dream that seems so real, and fear makes you make mistakes. And that is fine, you will make mistakes, but go and correct them as soon as possible, and don’t feel guilty, because that makes everything more difficult.
The word of God says that the Kingdom of God is for the fearless, which means that there is no room for fear. We need courage, and that only happens when you have complete trust in God. " For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1: 7. He already gave us what is required, we need now to act as if we already have it, so it will become active. That is faith. We read on the Bible about the giants of the faith, they all made mistakes, and God kept sustaining them, because they recognized their mistake, confessed it, and kept going. It is not our place to tell God how we want things done, because He will do it in His own way and at His own time, and by not recognizing His response when it comes, our trust in Him will debilitate. “It is impossible that the Son of God lack faith, but he can choose where he would have it be. Faithlessness is not a lack of faith, but faith in nothing. Faith given to illusions does not lack power, for by it does the Son of God believe that he is powerless.” ACIM T.21.iii.5.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10.
