WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is the Voice of God. It is the fulfillment of the promise that the Lord Jesus made to his disciples and to all of us who would believe through them.  “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever… I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:16,18. And He also said, “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.  But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth.”  John 16: 12-13. The Holy Spirit, being the Voice of God, became our Guide and teacher. He is also the translator that God establish to communicate with us. It is the communication link between us and God.  The Holy Spirit is the only one who can remove the sense of guilt we harbor in our mind and help us to live an easier life, while we learn and carry out our purpose. He is God's answer to all our questions.  His mission is to take us back to God. After the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit is the greatest blessing that God has given us.

His Word says that God created us in His image and likeness, we were created in a wonderful way, with inherent attributes and qualities.  God also shared His knowledge, power and wisdom, we had everything, even freedom. Being free is a quality that as we use and it can work in our favor or against us, depending on how the individual chooses to use it. When the separation was conceived, we forgot that when God created us he programmed us to be one with Him, and working in unity.   The law is, if we behave as His children we have the benefits, and if we do not want to be part of Him, we lose them, there is no other alternative. In our arrogance, we believed that we could separate ourselves from the Father, and at the same time continue to use the attributes He gave us. We wanted to build a better world a different one than the Father’s. We thought we had carried out our plan to separate ourselves from God, but God in that very instant gave His answer by putting in our mind the Holy Spirit to keep us united to Him.  As a result, the separation only occurred in our own mind.

Even though God at the time of separation put the Holy Spirit in us, it was a link at the collective level.  But when the Lord Jesus Christ, after His resurrection, invoked the power of the Holy Spirit, God appointed Him our Guide and Teacher on a personal basis, and although He is in each one of us and willing to help us, He can only become active when we ask Him to guide us. The Holy Spirit is the one who helps us to recover the knowledge of God, and reactivate the attributes and qualities God gave us when He created us, and we believed we have lost. We did not lose them because the Holy Spirit safeguarded them for the time when we were ready to return. And He will bring the information to our mind as each one starts to acquire the capacity to receive it.

Due to the Father’s love for us the separation didn’t take place. Separated from Him we can do nothing. The attributes we have, He gave them to us; we have life because we are connected to Him who is the Source of life.  We cannot separate ourselves from Him and continue to live. We are like a fetus that is connected to the mother through an umbilical cord, and could not subsist separate from her.  The sense of separation lasted only an instant, however, the terror we experienced at the moment we believed to be separated from the Father, caused us such a great trauma that that moment froze in our minds, that is why, even though so much time has passed, we still feel separated from God; we feel in exile, in an inhospitable world.  Whatever adversity we face, we think is a punishment from God.  We feel unworthy of His love. We have not been able to reestablish our relationship with Him.  Relationship that must be reestablish at the personal level.  For God, all this is only a bad dream that we are having.  He wants us to wake up and take our place in the Kingdom.

We have not yet realized that we are not separate from God, nor could we be away from Him. This world that we have built in our own way, the way of living that we have chosen, our attempts to obtain peace, love, and happiness are vain efforts, it lasts for a moment and disappears, these are only illusions.  By the side of our Father we had everything, and due to rebellion, we didn’t appreciate what He gave us, and as a result we lost everything.  But we can recover it. “Put not your faith in illusions. They will fail you. Put all your faith in the Love of God within you; eternal, changeless and forever unfailing. This is the answer to whatever confronts you today. Through the Love of God within you, you can resolve all seeming difficulties without effort and in sure confidence. Tell yourself this often today. It is a declaration of release from the belief in idols. It is your acknowledgment of the truth about yourself.”  ACIM L.50. 4.  God’s love for us has not changed.

Divine laws are permanent, it is we who need to change our mentality, that is why our Lord Jesus Christ reminded us, "Separated from Me, you can do nothing".  We cannot change the qualities or attributes that God determined for us, but we can change the purposes that we pursue if that is what we really want. Having only good intentions is not enough, because it could remain as a "wishful thought," we must have the desire and willingness to allow ourselves to be guided by the Holy Spirit.   We cannot fabricate ourselves another will different than God's Will, and still enjoy His attributes.  No one separated us from the Father, we were not expelled from His presence, it was a conscious and voluntary act of rebellion, so also our return to Him must be voluntary, one that recognizes error, including repentance, and willingness to be united to God. God our Father yearn for our return, but He will not force us because we are free.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10.
