WE CAN TRUST IN HIS PROMISES

Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.” John 10: 27-29. Our Lord Jesus Christ on different occasions spoke of himself as a shepherd, and about His followers as His sheep, those who heard and followed his teachings. To a pastor, the life of his sheep is so important that he defends them of any danger they might encounter. The Lord Jesus Christ who reached His unification with the Father affirmed neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand… and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.” Isn’t it a wonderful promise, to know that we belong to God, someone all powerful who is protecting us at all times? However, for most, although these words seem so beautiful they are not sure that applicable to them, and it remains as a wishful thought; however, it doesn’t need to be only a wish.

God our Father, wouldn’t keep us on a shore where we can glimpse and sigh, for the joy of those who are on the other shore, but we need to understand that all His promises are subjected to us doing our part. There is always a part we must do for them to become effective; and it is the same condition for everyone, God has no personal preferences. He loves everyone equally. God said through the prophet Jeremiah. “You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13 We need to seek for Him, to demonstrate our sincere desire to know Him.  when we seek Him with a burning desire, is when He makes Himself known to us. His Word endures forever, is immutable, it does not change, and that is our guarantee, that is the reason we can trust that if we do our part, He will do His.  Regardless of when the promised was made, it is still applicable to us, and to the generations to come.  If we are diligent and do our part, we will receive the desired results.  We need to make that little part that He determined for us.

God's promises are covenants that affect very directly our lives here, and our eternal life, that is why is so important to become familiar with His Word. For lack of knowledge, we believe that our closeness to God depends in our deeds; and many of us, wishing with all our heart to know that we are His, we are not sure if we "did enough", or if we were "good enough", and when we review our actions, we are not sure that we measured up. We thank God that our closeness to Him does not depend on our "goodness" or our "good deeds". Good deeds are only the fruit of the love we offer to God as the result of our beliefs, our new way of thinking.

Life in this world can be unbearable; during its course we find pain and suffering, and we feel lost and without knowing to whom to turn for help. But when we have the assurance that we are important to God, we would face life with a totally different attitude, we would have the certainty that there is never a moment when we are alone, because God goes with us wherever we go. “I am sustained by the Love of God. As I listen to God's Voice, I am sustained by His Love. As I open my eyes, His Love lights up the world for me to see. As I forgive, His Love reminds me that His Son is sinless. And as I look upon the world with the vision He has given me, I remember that I am His Son.” ACIM L-60.5.

We don’t have a way to pay for what we have received from God, and we don’t even need to try because it is His gift to us, but it is indispensable to give Him our thanks.  And we are thanking Him for His gifts when we share with our brothers what He gave us.  When it comes to God, our words are unnecessary because He sees what is in our mind. No need to tell Him how wonderful He is.  What God is asking from us is to love our brothers, because they are also His children, and carry out the designation He entrusted us, which is to remember our identity. To remember that we are His children.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10.
